YOU CAN FEEL THE POUNDING WRAPPED AROUND YOUR CHESTBRIONYLEWIS NOTHING'S TOO EXCESSIVE WHEN YOU'VE GOT NOTHING LEFT It had been five months since the little brunette had left Camp Olympus, and as she stepped out of the snow and onto the green grass of camp, Brie let out a sigh she hadn’t known she had been holding. Her hand on the handle of her kitchen knife relaxed and fell from it as she looked down the hill, over the rest of the camp. She had made good time, she thought absently, and hoisted the beaten leather bag up her shoulder one more time before trudging forward, heading towards the Hermes cabin. She threw her bag on the floor and quickly reinstalled her hammock, giving only the slightest of nods to the few half-siblings that were already in their abode, and strolled out, pulling her jacket closer around her skinny frame. It was as worn and threadbare as the rest of her, but Brie didn’t seem to notice. She’d long come accustomed to not having fancy things.
Her time away had set a few things straight for Brie, and while it wasn’t quite what she had been looking for, it made her walk with a new sense of purpose as she headed to her next destination. It certainly hadn’t been a loss, though she had a feeling the hardest part was yet to come. Despite everything she had gone through in the last few months, all the hard lessons, Brie was quite dreading the intense storm that was about to smack her on her face.
Hopefully he understood.
Brie opened the door to the other cabin soundlessly, taking a moment to let her eyes adjust to the light. It wasn’t unusual for Hades’ kids to be asleep at this hour, and a sudden movement caught Brie’s attention as Lilly sat up and blinked, opening her mouth to say “Brie,” but she quickly put a finger to her lips. The ginger girl frowned, watching as Brie crept forward to the sleeping boy. Brie could care less what Lilly thought about her absence- it was Nico she was worried about.
She said a small prayer to Hermes as she very gently coaxed the skull ring from his finger, tying in its place a single black ribbon. He’d know who it was from, even if Lilly didn’t say anything- though Brie had her doubts as to how well the older girl could hold her tongue. She straightened, pocketing the ring, and left, despite Lilly whispering her name harshly. It was reminiscent of the day she left, really, having disappeared over night with only a note and three words remaining behind her: “I’ll come back.” She had figured out a lot of things since then.
And yet, it all brought her back here.
Brie stopped by the lake, curling up and watching the gentle lapping of the water as she waited. It wouldn’t be long now.

-------------------------------------
Nico had had a late night, but how was that surprising? He had dragged himself into bed at around five in the morning and completely disregarded his half sisters. He shed his clothes quickly and crawled into bed almost pathetically, not caring for the cold that nipped his skin. His sword was in the forges, setting over night (or rather, all day) to cool from the modifications that he had made on it that evening. The dark eyed teen fell asleep quickly and dreamed of Bianca and his father and Lilly and Brie. He awoke briefly in the morning breathing heavily before he fell into a dreamless but light sleep.
When Nico next woke up, there was definitely something wrong. He sat up and rubbed childishly at his eyes and that's when he realized what was wrong. The weight of his left hand was lighter than usual. He stared down at his hand, his eyes wide in confusion. Nico stared at the black ribbon wrapped in place of his ring and the confusion slowly gave way to fury and understanding. Fury was his dominant emotion and he threw himself out of bed, pulling on a random set of clothes. He wasn't an idiot; he knew exactly who took his ring and damn if it didn't make him happy to know she was back.
There were three people alive that could take Nico's ring successfully and for the past five months only one of them had been at camp and even his presence was fleeting. Hermes wouldn't do it because Nico would make the god's camp life a living hell if he did. Hades wouldn't do it because the god of the Underworld had no reason to be stealing his things. That only left Brie. Nico hadn't seen hide no hair of the girl in five months. He had no idea where she'd been or what she'd been doing. When Nico was dressed, he took a calming breath and found a paper, scribbling a note to which ever one of his siblings saw the paper first saying that he had to get something and would they check on his sword thank you.
With that done, the angry son of Hades stormed out off the cabin and closed his eyes, trying to see if he could sense his ring. Nothing. So the brunette walked quickly around the camp, checking everywhere. It took him about fifteen minutes. When he had searched almost everywhere, he growled. Next was the stupid lake. The dark haired teen stormed through camp, his dark aura keeping people away from him as he approached the lake.
Nico wasn't surprised to find the person he'd been seeking at the lake and he stood back for a minute, just looking at her. For a moment, he contemplated being nice but that small thought vanished when he brushed his hair from his eyes.
"I thought I specifically told you," Nico snapped tightly, "to never touch my ring."

YOU CAN FEEL THE POUNDING WRAPPED AROUND YOUR CHESTBRIONYLEWIS NOTHING'S TOO EXCESSIVE WHEN YOU'VE GOT NOTHING LEFT Brie heard the footsteps and didn’t even bother to turn around as she rose to her feet- she knew who it was. How many times had she looked over her shoulder in the past months to tell him something, to show him the new things she had accomplished, only to be reminded that she had left him behind at camp? Her lips twitched into a smirk as she bit down on the giddy laugh building in her throat. It felt good to be home.
"I thought I specifically told you to never touch my ring."
She spun lazily, holding the ring between her thumb and index finger. “Cheerful as ever, aren’t you?” She teased him, her smirk turning into a flat out grin. “Here, have it back if you’re going to sulk about it.” She tossed it in the air to him and placed her hands in her back pockets, a show of her (temporary) promise to keep her “gift” to herself. She had known, of course, when she had taken the ring that Nico would not be thrilled- it had long been a long standing sort of joke between them, and for a while, Brie had kept to her word. She had never intended to keep it, however, just to get his attention- and she had. But for how long?
“You know me, sticky fingers… Couldn’t help myself, really. And since when do I ever do anything you tell me to?” She tilted her head, watching him for a moment. She had grown a few inches over the time she had been gone, but she was still much smaller than him. “For some great warrior, you’re such a deep sleeper.”
Deciding he wouldn’t kill her- yet- Brie decided to further test her luck, moving forward in several steps and throwing her arms around his middle, hugging him tightly. “I missed you, you know.” She took a step back, smoothing out her shirt, the faintest hint of pink tingeing her cheek. “It’s part of why I came back.”
She turned to face the lake once again, her expression unreadable. It had been snowing for a lot of her journey back to Camp, and it felt odd to see the lake without ice over it, the way most of the lakes had been. She sighed slowly, her eyes rising instead to the sky. She supposed when you were immortal, the idea of snow became taxing, but for Brie, the lack of it reminded her too much of New Orleans, and too much of the fact that, for all of her running around unleashed the past few months, she was still too much of a coward to go home.
She could conquer the world bit by bit, but New Orleans was always going to be a mountain that she would go around. Brie kicked a rock into the lake and pulled her braid over her shoulder, absently running her fingers over the ridges created by the lashed hair. It was a soothing gesture, momentarily relaxing her pent up nerves. She had come so far to get here, and now that she was back at camp, she almost didn’t know what to do with herself. She had changed, of course- but the real question was, how much had everyone else? And how well would she simply fit back in? “Hey, Nico?” She asked, glancing at him over her shoulder.

-------------------------------------
The dark haired teen narrowed his eyes at Brie when she held up his ring. Why had he missed her again? At the moment, he couldn't really answer the question but he didn't think he really wanted to answer that question just yet. A sneer was Nico's only answer as Brie tossed him his ring. He caught it and untied the ribbon from his finger, sliding his ring back into it's place properly.
"You know me, stick fingers... Couldn't help myself, really. And since when do I ever do anything you tell me to?"
With a scoff, Nico said, "You just need to learn some self control. Your trip clearly didn't teach you any of that." He rolled his coal coloured eyes when Brie prodded at his sleeping habits. "I was fixing my sword and went to bed late. It isn't my fault that my body actually requires sleep to function." He gave a humorless laugh and absently rubbed at his eyes that had rather prominent bags under them showing that he was attempting to fight his body's need for sleep although he definitely wasn't going to say that. Nico was sure that Lilly had noticed his sleeping habits because they weren't that hard to miss. He ran his fingers through his hair nd flinched when he was suddenly pulled into a tight hug. After a startled second, Nico eased his arms around Brie and gently returned her hug.
Nico arched a dark brow at his friend's words. "I missed you, you know. It's part of why I came back." Something, a gut feeling, held Nico back from making a snarky, rude comment. If Brie had said anything but that, Nico was sure his tongue wouldn't have been held nearly as well as it did at that moment. Nico bit down on the inside of his cheek and he stared at Brie for a moment before turning his head away from her to look out across the lake.
After a deep breath, Nico looked back at Brie. "Clearly that wasn't enough to make you come back earlier or even keep you from leaving," he snapped. "It's almost like you're just saying that so that I'll be nice to you." He spat the word 'nice' out like it was a disease that he needed to get rid of. Sneering, Nico took his gaze from Brie, not wanting to look at her for the moment. Nico set his gaze on his ring instead, watching the way it glinted in the sunlight. Gods he hated sunlight. It was obnoxious. He much preferred the dark of night because that was more comfortable for him. The teen was pulled out of his thoughts by Brie's voice calling his name. He looked up at her briefly before grunting. "What?" he asked, his tone icy but not as much as it had been before.

YOU CAN FEEL THE POUNDING WRAPPED AROUND YOUR CHESTBRIONYLEWIS NOTHING'S TOO EXCESSIVE WHEN YOU'VE GOT NOTHING LEFT "You just need to learn some self control. Your trip clearly didn't teach you any of that."
“Perhaps not,” she said lazily. “But it taught me plenty else.” She didn’t seem at all bothered by his mood, in fact, she was almost amused by it. Months by herself made her almost grateful to have Nico around, period, even if he was being a grouch about it. “Besides, I don’t ask you to tone down your Lordling of the Underworld jig, allow me to have my fun.” After all, it’s the only way I had food since I left.
"I was fixing my sword and went to bed late. It isn't my fault that my body actually requires sleep to function."
“I’m sorry, I’ll be sure to pass on to the monsters not to come after you when you’re too tired.” She rolled her eyes back at him childishly. How many times had she been bolted awake, thinking there was something after her? More times than not, she had been right- but it was still exhausting. She added a little more quietly, “Are you all right?” For all of their bickering, she did care about his well being as much as Brie knew how to care for anyone else. She wasn’t that great at showing it, but Nico knew her well enough to see the way she acted differently around him.
For a long moment, Brie had been certain that he wouldn’t return her hug- that her time away had been too long, her return way overdue. She let out the breath that she had held when he hugged her back- though he would never say it out loud, it was a huge sign that their friendship still stood. Nico didn’t hug people, yet he was hugging her back. Her spot in this world was still standing.
"Clearly that wasn't enough to make you come back earlier or even keep you from leaving. It's almost like you're just saying that so that I'll be nice to you."
Brie stopped her fidgeting, raising her head to look at him. Could she even begin to explain to him why she had left, what she had been hoping to accomplish? She could try, but in his mood, she doubted he would listen. Besides, did she even owe him an explanation? The old Brie wanted to say that he didn’t deserve one- but she knew better. Sometime later, she would try to explain it all to him. Just… not right now. “I came back, didn’t I?” She asked soberly. “Isn’t that what matters?” She softened her tone, her previous teasing one returning. “And this is your ‘being nice’? It needs some work.”
"What?"
“I, uh… need your help.” She kicked her foot against the ground, not looking at him. Brie’s pride normally kept her from asking for help from anyone, but she figured she had two options- go to Hermes and hope he could dumb it down enough for a demigod, or trust her luck with Nico. She preferred the second- there was nothing like being looked at like you were an idiot by not only your father, but a Greek god.

-------------------------------------
For a moment, Nico took offense to her words. 'Lordling of the Underworld'. He could have laughed and been angry all at once but the logical part of his mind reminded him that he was just tired and any other situation, he would have found that humorous. Sighing, Nico put a hand to his head, glaring at Brie as though she was at fault for his exhaustion. In a way, she was because she took his ring. "Whatever," he finally muttered in reply to her words.
A full blown smirk graced his lips at his friend's words next. "I'm sorry, I'll be sure to pass on to the monsters not to come after you when you're too tired."
With a shrug, the brunette replied, "They shouldn't come after me period. But if they did while I was tired, I'm sure that my father would be very proud of me." He scoffed at that sentence and glared up at Briony when she asked if he was alright. "I'm alive. I suppose that's all that matters."
Nico shifted awkwardly after the hug; five months without the shorter girl around had easily thrown Nico back into his antisocial circle of friends consisting of him and his sword. To be hugged again so suddenly was a bit shocking but what was even more shocking was that this simple girl had wormed her way into his life in such a short amount of time that he had floundered without her. Ugh, his brain was going to start hurting if he kept thinking about that.
"I came back, didn't I? Isn't that what matters?" Nico blinked at the girl in wonder. " And this is your 'being nice'? It needs some work."
Nico rolled his eyes. "I'm not nice. Ever, Brie. You have never seen nor will you ever see me being nice. Idiot." He shook his head but his eyes were affectionate when he looked at Brie, providing his answer to her question: yes, all that mattered was that she was back. At that moment, Nico really wanted to hug the girl but he held back simply because he wasn't supposed to be nice. He cursed himself for saying that but his pride wouldn't let him go against that statement. Nico arched a brow when the shorter brunette said she needed his help, his affectionate look vanishing completely from his eyes. "Oh, you need my help?" he snapped. "You need my help. Right. I'm sure you do. With what? Apologizing to Lord Hermes for being gone so long?" his tone was harsh but he couldn't help it; how could she think she could just waltz back in his life after five months and demand Nico's help? The son of Hades felt fury wash through him and took a couple deep breaths to keep himself from doing anything rash. "Well?" Nico snapped when he was sure nothing too terrible or Underworld-eqsue would happen.

YOU CAN FEEL THE POUNDING WRAPPED AROUND YOUR CHESTBRIONYLEWIS NOTHING'S TOO EXCESSIVE WHEN YOU'VE GOT NOTHING LEFT "Whatever,"
Brie smirked. Whenever Nico didn’t feel like arguing with her, she counted it as a win.
"They shouldn't come after me period. But if they did while I was tired, I'm sure that my father would be very proud of me. I'm alive. I suppose that's all that matters."
Well, she couldn’t argue with the logic of that. The most that any demigod could hope for- to simply keep living, day after day. It was hardly easy, what with the monsters, and the brief reprieve that camp offered them was like sheep in a pen. It drove Brie nuts, and so she left…. Yet here she was again. “Are you sure?” She asked cheekily, raising her brows at him. “You’re rather pale…” She teased, hoping to spark some of their usual familiarity. He was fighting her, and she wasn’t oblivious to it. She’d just bludgeon him with her charm until he gave in.
"I'm not nice. Ever, Brie. You have never seen nor will you ever see me being nice. Idiot."
“Keep telling yourself that.” Brie laughed, unphased by being called an idiot. Their friendship would always seem downright abusive to some, but it worked for them. She was just as likely to smack him as he was to call her an idiot, and for them, it worked. As if she could read his mind, she moved closer again, pulling him into yet another hug- quite the record for both of them, given that neither of them were very impressed by physical touch. Still, six months was a long time, and she figured her touchy-feelly moment could be allowed to slide just this once. “Besides, I know you missed me.” She said smugly, tilting her head back to look at him.
She realized a second too late that she had made a grave misstep, and Brie quickly moved out of arm’s length again as the flood of Nico’s temper hit her square in the face.
"Oh, you need my help? You need my help. Right. I'm sure you do. With what? Apologizing to Lord Hermes for being gone so long?"
“It’s not like that, you ass.” Brie replied bluntly, her own expression growing stormy. Brie never asked for help, and she had thought that of all the people she could admit she needed help to, Nico would have been the best choice. Apparently not. “And I don’t have anything to apologize for- not to him. I’m pretty sure he knew where I was, anyway.” She fought the urge to turn and walk away from him, rolling her eyes- like that would show him- instead closing her eyes and taking in a deep breath. “I didn’t come back because I want something. I do need your help, though- you’re my friend. That’s what friends do.”
"Well?"
She cast an uncertain look at the ground, wishing she had enough foresight to bring her winged sandals in case he thought killing her might be fun. “Never mind. Forget I asked.” She said sullenly, jamming her hands back in her pockets and looking perplexed. “I didn’t mean to piss you off.”

-------------------------------------
Nico's eyes flashed slightly at the brunette as she continued to ask if he was okay. "Are you sure? You're rather pale..."
The rebutal at the tip of his tongue was only held back because while he was mad at her, he couldn't really bring himself to be that untoward and violently rude. He looked away for a moment, watching the lake sparkle in the winter sunlight. When he was sure he would hold his tongue (or at least keep the meaner and less friendly thoughts at bay for a fight or something), Nico looked back to Brie. "Your powers of observation astound me, Brie. Me, pale?" he held one of his arms out in front of him and stared at his skin. "I'm pale? Never would have thought that I was."
A roll of his eyes was his reply when she told him to keep telling himself that she would never see his nice side. He shifted his weight to his right fooot and shoved his hands into his pockets, pleasantly surprised (although he would never admit it) when Brie hugged him again. He did enjoy hugging the little brunette; her touch could easily calm him down in a rage. Well, at least a rage at someone else. Nico had to admit she was smart to step away from him because his mind had quickly went from content to hug to livid at being asked for help and he would have had no problems with lashing out and hitting her.
"It's not like that, you ass. And I don't have anything to apologize for- not to him. I'm pretty sure he knew where I was, anyway. I didn't come back because I wanted something. I do need your help, though- you're my friend. That's what friends do."
On a normal person, or someone not Nico di Angelo, that little speech probably would have flooded them with guilt. Not Nico. His fatal flaw was holding grudges. The dark haired teen stared down at his shorter companion, disgust probably the dominant emotion on his face. He couldn't help it. It was in his lineage to hold grudges and not even the sweetness that was his mother could counter out that flaw. He stared at Briony with a scowl on his face. Their banter moments earlier had definitely ensured that they were more than just two people at camp but could she really still call herself his friend? The brunette ground his teeth together and shifted his weight to his left foot.
"Never mind. Forget I asked." Nico was willing to let it go at that. His body relaxed from the tense stance he hadn't realized he'd taken until that second. Truly, the son of Hades was ready to just let it go and forget it ever happened. Then she had to go and open her mouth again. "I didn't mean to piss you off."
His anger returned tenfold and he couldn't tell (as he usually couldn't when he got this angry) if it was just him or the ground shaking like that. Nico withdrew his hands from his pockets and he took a quick step toward Brie, placing one hand on her shoulder and the other hand on her chin. Nico stared down at her for a few long seconds before he spoke.
"You didn't mean to piss me off," he said. His tone wasn't calm in the slightest but it wasn't quite yet a yell nor was it anything that would attract attention from the camp yet. "You didn't mean to piss me off?" He released the girl from his grip and growled. "Well, you should have thought about that before you disappeared from my life, Brie." He really wanted to hit her. Very badly. However, she was outside of camp borders for almost six months so she had to have gained some reflexes dodging monsters and he didn't have his sword on him. So with those things in mind, Nico kept his hands to himself. "You have some nerve," Nico snarled. "You thought you could just waltz back in here, right? Well news flash, you're very, very wrong. At least for me. You can't just... Just leave and then expect everything to be peachy when you come back. You were my only friend, Brie, and you up and left. What was I supposed to think? Gods, I don't even..." He trailed off, muttering angrily to himself, his eyes still zeroed in on the brunette. He took a deep breath, trying to calm himself. He calmed enough for him to stop talking and wait to see if the brunette would storm off or argue back.

"Your powers of observation astound me, Brie. Me, pale?"
The look she gave him promised sudden death.
"I'm pale? Never would have thought that I was."
“You know that’s not what I meant,” she said scathingly, wondering why she was even bothering. He clearly didn’t want anything to do with her, and all Brie wanted to do right then was flick him between the eyes in hopes it would reset him back to normal. Nico was never warm and cuddly, but he wasn’t usually this bad, either… not to her. “You’re always pale, but right now, you’re downright ghastly.” It was blunt, but true, and she raised her brows as she dared him to counteract it. Brie was still rather tanned from her trip to Europe, and it made her look almost… pretty. That was, until she opened her mouth.
She set her own mouth stubbornly as she stared him down. She knew that she had pushed his buttons and sent him into a rage, but Brie didn’t care. There had been times he had made her mad- now, for instance- and she had gotten over it. He would too, in time, and they would go back to being best friends. It wasn’t like he could replace her so easily, after all. While he glared down at her, she gave it right back. She was either incredibly brave, or incredibly stupid.
Brie would like to think she was brave.
Deciding, however, that bravery wasn’t the way to go- best to keep the peace and then bring it up again later, Brie tried to make amends… but she misstepped, and pissed him off even more. It definitely wasn’t her month.
She felt the ground tremble slightly beneath her feet, but Brie didn’t look down. She trusted Nico enough to not do that. No matter how mad he was at her, he wasn’t going to kill her…. Right? Zeus, she hoped so.
"You didn't mean to piss me off,"
“I didn’t.” She agreed calmly, keeping her eyes on him and not the ground. However, she let out a slight yelp when he grabbed her, and she shut up, staring up at him with wide eyes. What was he thinking?
"You didn't mean to piss me off?"
Brie didn’t dare respond, even as he let her go, and she took a quick step back. Her normal reaction of fight wasn’t going to work- she wouldn’t hurt Nico, and he was out of her league as an opponent anyway. He would crush her in seconds. She couldn’t flee- not from him. Not if she ever hoped to repair things between them. Brie had never felt so torn in her life- run from Nico, or stay and weather the storm.
"Well, you should have thought about that before you disappeared from my life, Brie."
Her jaw fell open, and she stared at him long and hard, as if she had just seen him start singing like a canary and dancing to showtunes. She looked positively flummoxed. “You missed me?”
"You have some nerve. You thought you could just waltz back in here, right? Well news flash, you're very, very wrong. At least for me. You can't just... Just leave and then expect everything to be peachy when you come back. You were my only friend, Brie, and you up and left. What was I supposed to think? Gods, I don't even..."
“You did,” she said slowly, her face showing her wonder at the concept. She and Nico were friends, yes, but Brie had never in a million years thought her absence would have made that big of a difference to him. Nico didn’t make friends like normal people. His concept of friends was a semi-negotiable I-promise-not-to-kill-you, and that’s what Brie had always held it as. She had never imagined that she mattered nearly as much to him as he did to her, and the thought was… well, humbling. “You missed me.”
She pushed her hair out of her face, shaking her head slowly. “I left you a note.” She said after a moment, tentatively. “I left you a note, and I didn’t leave anyone else one. I told you I would be back. I’m back.” She chewed on her lip for a moment, not sure what to say to him. If she said the wrong thing, it would set him off again, and she didn’t want to lose him- no matter what he thought. “You’re the only person here I give a damn about, Nico. I never imagined you’d feel… abandoned… or… I would have offered to let you come with me.” She had thought about it, before leaving. Long and hard. “You had your own thing going here- your siblings, your cabin lead position, you seemed…. Well, happy, for you. I didn’t want to take you from that.” She scuffed her feet against the ground, finally looking away from him, abashed. “I’m sorry.”

-------------------------------------
The black haired teen ignored her continuation of how he looked. It wasn't as though Brie stating it would make it any different. He looked ill and he was probably going to catch something due to the lack of sleep and the physical exhertion lowering his immune system. He stared down at Brie, his eyes dark at he looked upon the brunette.
When her jaw dropped and she asked if he missed her, Nico couldn't bring himself to be angry at the assumption, simply because it wasn't really an assumption. It was the truth and she phrased it more bluntly than he would ever think of phrasing it. He was a son of Hades! He had no reason to go around flaunting his emotions and being all... Daughter of Aphrodite-y. Nico looked away when Brie repeated that he did miss her. Damn feelings. He kept his gaze on the lake, trying not to look at Brie or think about missing her because if he did, he was certainly just come out and tell her that he missed her and she really didn't need the ego boost. At least that's what Nico was telling himself.
When Brie started to talk, Nico was kind enough to look at her while she was speaking. "I left you a note. I left you a note, and I ddin't leave anyone else one. I told you I would be back. I'm back."
"But you left!" Nico exclaimed. "That's it, you left!" He stomped his foot angrily. "You left me here alone! You can't do that!"
Nico faltered at Brie's next words. "You're the only person here I give a damn about, Nico. I never imagined you'd feel... abandoned... or... I would have offered to let you come with me. You had your own thing going here- your siblings, your cabin lead position, you seemed... Well, happy, for you. I didn't want to take you from that. I'm sorry."
The son of Hades stared at Brie blankly, his mind processing what he'd just been told. Had he really seemed happy? Well, compared to everything he'd been through, he supposed that Camp Olympus was a happy point in his life. But still, Brie had grown on him. It disoriented him when she left and he hadn't been righted. Sighing, Nico reached out and ruffled Brie's hair, muttering, "Whatever." He withdrew his hand and folded his arms across his chest, glaring at her although his expression had softened significantly. He hoped she got the gist of his little motion there.

He looked away, and Brie knew it was true, just as she knew where she came from and what her first name was. She sidled closer to him, not reaching out to touch him again, but she stood close enough that he could feel the heat of her skin. Brie had left for her own reasons- but her return had as much to do with him as it did her. He was entwined in her fate, of that she was certain.
But it didn’t mean that he would understand her reasoning, either.
"But you left! That's it, you left! You left me here alone! You can't do that!"
“It’s no different than you leaving me to go visit the Underworld!” Brie growled right back, unsure what he wanted her to say. Yes, she had left, but she had come back- all for him. He was the only reason she had come back to camp at all, but she couldn’t just come out and say that. It was nearly insane. “I just took longer about it!”
Every time he left her to go into the Underworld to visit his father, Brie wondered if it would be the last time she saw him. Hades had made it pretty clear- according to Nico- that he wasn’t particularly fond of him, and it wasn’t like the Underworld was Candyland. He could be eaten by gods knew what. Still, Brie never complained. She didn’t know whether to be touched or annoyed that he was.
"Whatever."
He reached over and ruffled her hair, and Brie laughed, taking a step back out of reach, running her fingers through her hair so that it fell back into place. “Yeah, yeah,” she said, moving closer again to nudge his side with her elbow. It was nice to know that they were going to be fine after all.
